Luberon et Vin en Provence Sept. 5- 14

In southeastern France…

between Mt. Blanc and Marseilles lies
the fabled land of Provence.
And in its midst roll the Prealpinefoothills of Luberon.
Running west toward the Rhone valley, its hilltops crowned with medieval villages, its slopes cloaked
in oak and beech, valleys draped in vineyards,
Luberon is a cyclist’s dream.

.

  The ElliptiGo Rides
We’ll cruise through patchwork farms growing the vegetables, meats, and herbs which define Provençale cuisine. Single lane farm roads are our favorite but French “D” roads are nearly as lightly traveled.
Daily we’ll wind from valley floors to sweeping views framed in pine trees. Whether on hilltops or nestled on riverbanks, villages mark our progress: L’Isle sur la Sorgue, La Baux, Lourmarin, ochre walled Rousillion, hilltop Gordes. On to Bedoin for an optional climb up legendary Mt. Ventoux.
Discover the tunnels and vistas of the Gorges de la Nesque, and find out if Chateauneuf du Pape is a wine, a village, or an area. And what does it have to do with the Pope in the first place?

  The Food
Whether standing up or sitting on a saddle we travel on our stomachs. So we’ve come to the right place– here “farm to table” is not jargon but a way of life.
Luberon famously grows tomatoes, bell peppers, courgettes and their delicious flowers, eggplant, olives, basil, garlic, olive oil, wild herbs, especially lavender and thyme, and melons of all colors. In September add figs, apples, leeks, and mushrooms. Goat cheese is king, but fromage from all over France is on every menu.

Fish, shellfish, crustacés, squid, octopus (poulpe), sardines, anchovies, Soupe de Poissons, or go for a real Bouillabaisse. Lamb dishes and Beef Daube (hearty stew) are considered specialties, other proteins abound. And every restaurant and hotel will ask for allergies or preferences.
